Oreyv 3 – The Importance of Simcha – Mourning the Beis HaMikdash Negates the Tears of Esav – Tears of Am Yisrael – Tefilah – Teshuvah – Shabbos Nachamu – Pesach – Ratzon – 4 Reasons for Geulas Mitzrayim – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Oreyv 3 is based on 2Likutey Moharan 4.
00 – PARAGRAPH 28. The importance of simcha. Mourning the Beis HaMikdash negates the tears of Esav.
00 – The tears of Am Yisrael express yearning to return to HaShem.
00 – When a Jew cries in tefilah, or cries in repentence, this brings HaShem’s rescue.
00 – PARAGRAPH 29. Shabbos Nachamu. Those who mourn the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash will see the rebuilding of Beis HaMikdash – immediately.
00 – The difference between despair and a broken heart. Despair is anger and resentment of HaShem. A broken heart leads to HaAras HaRatzon and simcha.
[NOTE: Because today was the last shiur before Pesach, R’ Nasan skipped ahead to the section of this halakha that’s about Pesach. Paragraphs 30-33a will be covered in the shiur that follows this one.]
00 – PARAGRAPH 34. In the merit of 4 things Am Yisrael was redeemed from Mitzrayim. All 4 reasons were aspects of ratzon.
25 – Merit 1: Am Yisrael did not change their names. “The life force of a living thing is in its name.” Reference to Likutey Moharan 59.
30 – Only a small percentage of Am Yisrael was redeemed from Egypt.
15 – Merit 2: Am Yisrael did not change their language. Loshon HaKodesh expresses yearning for HaShem. “The tongue is the pen of the heart.” Speech reveals what a person wants.
30 – NOTE: Loshon HaKodesh is not necessarily Hebrew. Speaking loshon hara or divrei chol on Shabbos, even if it’s done in Hebrew, is not Loshon HaKodesh. Reference to Likutey Moharan 19.
00 – Merit 3: Refraining from Arayos, and Merit 4: Refraining from idol worship. A person who sins in these two aspects is damaging his heart.
00 – Idol worship is the gateway to arayos – impurity between men and women. The creation of the Egel HaZahav – Golden Calf – was intended as a first step toward immorality. Reference to Likutey Moharan 36.
30 – Yetzias Mitzraim is mentioned 50 times in the Torah – alluding to Binah – Ratzon.
00 – [Skipped to the end of PARAGRAPH 33:] Am Yisrael was redeemed from Mitzrayim in the merit of Yosef HaTzaddik.
50 – The Ten Commandments begins with “I am HaShem Who took you out of Mitzrayim.” In every generation Am Yisrael is supposed to consider themselves as those who were redeemed from Mitzrayim.
00 – Closing blessings. Tonight is bedikas chometz.
