Oreyv 3 – Metzach HaRatzon vs. Erev Rav – רעוא דרעוין – HeAras HaRatzon – 3 Elements – Location, Time, Desire – Moshe Rabbeinu – 40 Days on Sinai 3 Times – Rosh Chodesh ElulYomim Noraim – Days of Awe – Tzedakah on Erev Yom KippurNeilah Sukkos – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Oreyv 3 is based on 2Likutey Moharan 4.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 35. Tetzaveh. Aharon HaKohen is Metzach HaRatzon.
04:45 – *The 3 elements of existence: Olam, Shanah, Ratzon – Location, Time, Desire. The tzaddik connects all 3 categories through his HeAras HaRatzon.
08:30 – וְהָיָ֤ה עַל־מִצְחוֹ֙ תָּמִ֔יד לְרָצ֥וֹן לָהֶ֖ם לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה – “It shall be upon his forehead constantly to make them favorable before HaShem” (Shemos 28:38, Tetzaveh).
09:00 – Moshe Rabbeinu – 40 days on Har Sinai 3 times.
11:40 – ***The 40 days from Rosh Chodesh Elul to Yom Kippur are days of ratzon. During this time we focus on increasing our yearning to serve HaShem. Ratzon generates yirah. This is why these days are called Yomim NaRaim – “Days of Awe”.
14:30 – Q&R – How does ratzon generate yirah? Everything in “nature” is actually ratzon HaShem. When HaShem performs a miracle it reveals His ability to control the forces of nature through His ratzon. When people see that HaShem is above all other powers, their yirah – respect for HaShem – increases.
16:45 – Tzedakah is an aspect of Hisgalus HaRatzon. The Metzach HaNachash is sustained by people who grow old with anger instead of creativity. Tzedakah defeats the Metzach HaNachash: שַׁלַּ֥ח לַחְמְךָ֖ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַמָּ֑יִם כִּֽי־בְרֹ֥ב הַיָּמִ֖ים תִּמְצָאֶֽנּוּ – “Cast your bread upon the surface of the water, for after many days you will find it” (Koheles 11:1).
20:45 – ***Q&R about Metzach HaNachash – The evil of “killing time” is a crime again HaShem. The older a person gets, the higher his level of yishuv hadaas, so he’s supposed to have higher levels of daas and rachmanos. “A 30-year-old is not the same as a 70-year-old.” [Respect for parents is a foundation in chinuch.]
24:30 – PARAGRAPH 36. The days of Elul, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur are compared to a lion. The roshei teivos of these three words spell ari – lion.אַרְיֵ֥ה שָׁאָ֖ג מִ֣י לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א – “A lion has roared; who will not fear?” (Amos 3:8). Scientists are compared to wild animals – the destructive aspect of “lion” – because they tear souls apart by destroying faith in HaShem.
26:30 – Dovid HaMelech vs. Golias. During the Days of Awe we defeat the Metzach HaNachash.
31:45 – NOTE – this week we are counting the Omer in the midah of Gevurah. Gevurah is begematria Yirah.
33:00 – אִם־יִתָּקַ֚ע שׁוֹפָר֙ בְּעִ֔יר וְעָ֖ם לֹ֣א יֶֽחֱרָ֑דוּ – “Will a shofar be sounded in a city and the people not fear?” (Amos 3:6).
35:00 – Yom Kippur is the time of ultimate teshuvah – רעוא דרעוין – because sins are transformed into mitzvos – negative is converted to positive. Tzedakah is especially given on Erev Yom Kippur.
37:50 – 5 tefilos on Yom Kippur – Neilah.
42:00 – Tzedakah sweetens Midas HaDin. Tzedakah and tefilah are one – both are Malkhus.
45:30 – The letter Hey in tzedakah refers to the 5 tefilos of Yom Kippur.
46:00 – Q&R about a person’s ratzon eliciting HaShem’s good will.
46:30 – PARAGRAPH 37. Yirah is a vessel for blessing. Sukkos is the vessel for all the types of chesed generated throughout the Yomim Noraim. During Sukkos a shefa of blessing flows. The Sukkah is a hug from HaShem.
49:00 – Sukkos Dovid HaNofelas. כִּֽי־בְשִׂמְחָ֣ה תֵצֵ֔אוּ – “For with joy you will go forth…” (Yeshaya 55:12).
54:00 – The 70 korbonos brought during Sukkos on behalf of the 70 Nations. Closing blessings.
