Hilkhos Mitaltelin 3 is based on 2Likutey Moharan 7.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 9. Man is called “shemayim vearetz” – a combination of heaven and earth. Because man was created on Rosh Hashanah, “the world was created on Rosh Hashanah”.
05:30 – The purpose of creation is to reveal the sovereignty of HaShem. Makom Yishuv – a civilized place – is a place where HaShem is recognized as King.
07:30 – The purpose of the Torah is hisgalus HaShem.
08:00 – Q&R – A person is supposed to be conscious of HaShem when they are learning Torah.
09:00 – Rosh Hashanah is on Rosh Chodesh. Two levels of Daas – Ben veTalmid. Ben is a higher level for the transmission of daas, as an aspect of “Ayeh Makom Kevodo”. Talmid is the lower level for the transmission of daas, as an aspect of “Melo Chol HaAretz Kevodo”.
21:30 – Each person should experience both levels with respect to HaShem.
22:30 – NOTE: There is a tradition not to eat nuts on Rosh Hashanah, “because אגוז is begematria חטא”. However, these two words are actually not equal in begamtria. How is this resolved? Heard from Rabbi Rosenfeld zal: Nachash – the נ is “caught between the teeth” – “שן”.
28:00 – NOTE: Story about the Rebbe Reb Zushia zal and the Vilna Gaon zal.
35:00 – PARAGRAPH 10. Waking up from spiritual sleep on Rosh Hashanah.
38:00 – Rabbi Eliezer is an aspect of בן while Rabbi Yehoshua is an aspect of תלמיד.
44:30 – The Talmud Yerushalmi warns that a person should not sleep during the day on Rosh Hashanah.
45:30 – The concept of Ben veTalmid is parallel to Rosh Hashana and Rosh Chodesh. The goal of every Jew is to join two concepts together. Rosh Hashana achieves this unification because it coincides with Rosh Chodesh.
48:30 – Ashamnu – who is the “us” in Vidui?
49:15 – Closing blessings.
