Then he put the knife down, made the blessing, holding both challos in his hands. Then he placed the unmarked challah on the table, out of his way. He took the marked Challah and turned it on its side, with the top of the challah facing him. Then, beginning with the nick, he sliced with every stroke reaching from the top of the challah through the bottom. When the slice was almost fully cut, he put down the knife, leaving a small section still joined to the loaf. Then he picked up the challah and tore the slice off.
