Ein Yaakov is a collection of the Aggadah of the Talmud. It was compiled by Rabbi Yaakov ibn Habib and – after his passing – by his son Rabbi Levi ibn Habib. It is presented here by רבי צבי ארי-ה רוזנפלד ז”ל Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld ז”ל, a revered Breslov scholar and man of true kindness.
Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto explains that Aggadah are multi-layered, with literal meanings (חלק המצוות) and allegorical (חלק הסודות) or “secret” meanings. The “secret” components contain the deeper teachings of the Talmud that the rabbis of the Mishnaic era considered so powerful they “encoded” these messages in narratives to prevent them from being misused.
The understanding of Aggadah is based on rules and principles so that only someone “equipped with the keys” can unlock their meaning. To others, they might appear as non-rational or fantastic.
Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld z”l shared his mastery of Ein Yaakov with students in a way that transformed and uplifted their lives. B”H he had the foresight to record these shiurim, entrusting the keys to the hidden wisdom of Ein Yaakov to all who appreciate the value of this treasury.
