LH4-18-Hechsher Keylim

2022-06-21 – LH4 – YD1 – Hechsher Keylim 4 – Intro., Para. 1-3a – Potential to Actual; Perfecting Creation; Sin Creates Separation from Hashem

Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon. This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan 66.
00:00 – INTRODUCTION. The process of transforming potential into actuality. The two Yuds in the combined Names of Hashem A – D – N – Y and Y – K – V – K.
05:11 – Eleh toldos Noach, Noach Ish Tzaddik. “Noach” twice – upper and lower ruach.
09:03 – PARAGRAPH 1. Every person has a responsibility to perfect creation.
17:49 – Q&R about bris milah on the eighth day.
19:06 – PARAGRAPH 2. אֵ֣לֶּה תֽוֹלְד֧וֹת הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם וְהָאָ֖רֶץ בְּהִ֣בָּֽרְאָ֑ם בְּי֗וֹם עֲשׂ֛וֹת יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶ֥רֶץ וְשָׁמָֽיִם – “These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, on the day that Hashem the Master made earth and heaven” (Bereishis 2:4). The essential realization of potential is in Torah knowledge. In a sense, the creation of the world actually began with Avraham Avinu, who introduced people to faith in Hashem.
26:00 – PARAGRAPH 3. The opening of the two yuds. Sin creates a separation between Hashem and the person who’s rebelling against Him. וְהַֽחַיּ֖וֹת רָצ֣וֹא וָשׁ֑וֹב – “And the living beings [angels] would run and return …” (Yechezkel 1:14).
*42:00 – A person needs help from Above in order to repair damage they’ve done. Analogy of a person falling into a ditch.
41:41 – Teshuvah (return to Hashem) is above Torah. The greater the sinner, the greater the tzaddik needed to complete the spiritual repair. Reference to Likutey Moharan
44:23 – Introduction to the concept of “pi shenayim” – the double portion [of spirituality] received by a student when his teacher rises to a new level.
46:04 – Closing blessings.
