Pikadon 4 – Parshas Emor – Parshas VeZos HaBerakha – Health Course – Tehillim Course – Siddur Course – True Wisdom vs. False Wisdom – Dangers of Chumra – Stringency – Mosros – Lifting the Omer – One Rabbi – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Pikadon 4 is based on Likutey Moharan 1.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 4b. True Wisdom vs. False Wisdom.
14:00 – הוֹי חֲכָמִים בְּעֵינֵיהֶם וְנֶגֶד פְּנֵיהֶם נְבֹנִים – “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and in their own estimation, of profound understanding” (Yeshaya 5:21).
18:00 – Educators and psychologists/therapists who haven’t refined their own midos mislead others.
19:00 – ***HEALTH COURSE. Parshas VeZos HaBerakha. Therapy vs. Forgetting. NOTE about Post Traumatic therapy and reliving the past. In contrast, the Torah teaches us what to remember and what to forget. The last statement in the Torah alludes to Moshe Rabbeinu’s act of breaking the Luchos: וּלְכֹל הַיָּד הַחֲזָקָה וּלְכֹל הַמּוֹרָא הַגָּדוֹל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה מֹשֶׁה לְעֵינֵי כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל – “and all the strong hand, and all the great awe, which Moshe performed before the eyes of all Israel” (Devarim 34:12, VeZos HaBerakha). Until that moment, there was no forgetfulness in the world. Psychologists steal their patient’s life in the present by encouraging them to waste time delving into the past.
The above is based on Rashi on Devarim 34:12:
לְעֵינֵי כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל – In view of all Israel. This refers to the fact that his heart inspired him to shatter the Tablets before their eyes, as it says: וָאֲשַׁבְּרֵם לְעֵינֵיכֶם “I shattered them before your eyes” (Devarim 9:17).
The Holy One, blessed be He, approved his decision, as it says: אֲשֶׁר שָׁבַרְתָּ “that you shattered” (Shemos 34:1) and is interpreted as: “Firm power to you (יִישַׁר כֹּחֲךָ) for shattering them!”
23:00 – TEHILLIM COURSE. Q&R – When a perek of Tehillim is attributed to Assaf, why is Dovid HaMelech also given credit? Although there are 10 tzaddikim who contributed to Sefer Tehillim, the entire sefer is also accredited to Dovid HaMelech.
24:00 – Q&R about consulting psychologists.
28:00 – Philosophy, sciences, and being too stringent in Torah observance can twist a person’s mind and heart. The dangers of following Torah without guidance in its practical application from a person who has a true mesorah.
25:00 – NOTES about Taanis Bechorim not applying to women. Reference to Chayeh Moharan 489(?).
37:00 – ***SIDDUR COURSE. NOTE about exaggerating the words of the Shema without receiving the mesorah from an authority.
39:00 – All yenika – sustenance – of the Sutra Achra comes from a defect in the Malkhus – Pegam HaTzimtzum – not knowing/maintaining proper boundaries.
42:00 – NOTE about “shtibl hopping” – it’s not productive to asking many different rabbis to daven for one’s health or hatzlacha, as in “A cooking pot that’s watched by two people will not be warm and not be cold”. Similarly, we don’t ask for a number of halakhic rulings.
45:00 – NOTE the five letters stumos – MeNaTZPaCH – ם ן ץ ף ך.
48:00 – Parshas Emor. וְהֵנִיף אֶת־הָעֹמֶר לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לִרְצֹנְכֶם מִמָּחֳרַת הַשַּׁבָּת יְנִיפֶנּוּ הַכֹּהֵן – “And he shall wave the Omer before HaShem so that it will be acceptable for you; the kohen shall wave it on the day after the rest day” (Vayikra 23:11, Emor).
53:00 – ***Q&R about asking different rabbonim different questions. For daily halakha, different poskim can be consulted, but for advice concerning practical application of halakha – a derech in how to live the Torah – one rabbi is best.
54:00 – Closing blessings.
