Rabbi Nachman of Breslov explains why, when we say the blessing before eating bread, we emphasize the pronunciation of the letter “hey” in the word “hamotzi“. This calls to mind the five types of grains for which Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel) is praised, and the letter “hey” that was added to the name of Avraham Aveinu (the Patriarch Abraham). Through doing this we spiritually connect the meal we’re about to eat with the holiness of Eretz Yisrael. Text: Likutey Halakhos, Orach Chaim 2, Hilkhos Devarim HaNohagim BaSeudah 4, Paragraph 23. Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
