NACH 53 – Daniel – Lesson 5 – Daniel’s First Two Visions About the Arrival of Moshiach

00:00 – Daniel’s vision of four beasts rising from the depths of the Mediterranean Sea: a winged lion (the Babylonian empire), a bear (the Persian empire), a four-headed, winged leopard(the Greek empire), and a ten-horned creature with iron teeth (the Roman empire). Daniel then saw the image of an Ancient Patriarch, dressed in white, with a white beard, seated on a throne of fire. This Ancient Patriarch killed the beast of the Roman empire by throwing it into a river of fire.
12:42 – Daniel’s vision contained clues to the process of Jewish redemption. Because hints about this process are difficult to understand, it’s important to maintain faith with regard to the arrival of Moshiach.
15:28 – The second vision of Daniel concerns the Greek empire, headed by Alexander the Great, and its triumph over the Babylonian empire. This vision contained further clues about the arrival of Moshiach.
24:18 – A person cannot see Moshiach unless he believes in Moshiach. When Moshiach comes, many Jews will die, just as many died before Am Yisrael was freed from slavery in Egypt.
26:00 – Why the arrival of Moshiach is imminent.
30:19 – Daniel’s tefilah pleading for the end of exile and his viduy – confession on behalf of his generation.
33:49 – The malach Gavriel speaks to Daniel about the length of the exile.
36:37 – Introduction to the final prediction heard from the malach Gavriel about the arrival of Moshiach. This will be the topic of the next shiur , which will also be the final lecture in this series, when Rabbi Rosenfeld will also introduce the beginning of his new series, Sichos HaRan.
