LH7-14-Shutafim beKarka

2025-07-20 – LH7 – CM1 – Shutafim beKarka 5 – Para. 25-27 – Matzranus

Shutafim beKarka 5 – Matzranus Machtzis HaShekel – Counting Am YisraelChokhom veTaamSiyag leTorah – When to Be Silent – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Shutafim beKarka 5 is based on 2Likutey Moharan 7.
00:00 – PARAGRAPH 25. Machtzis HaShekel – Counting Am Yisrael – 60 Thousand – Achdus.
09:00 – It’s best not to hear too much from a Torah teacher who is not one’s Rabbi. Each person must establish his own Siyag leTorah – “Fence around the Torah” to maintain careful boundaries and regulate the measure of what they receive from others. This concept is related to Am Yisrael being warned to use shekalim to count members, and not to count the members themselves.
12:45 – Reference to Sanhedrin 48. NOTE about Sipurey Maasiyos – Chokhom veTaam.
16:00 – NOTE heard from Reb Michel Dorfman zal – The Taam got frightened when he heard that the Satan was calling for the Chokhom because the Simpleton’s faith had been weakened by engaging in conversation with the Sophisticate.
22:00 – NOTE based on Megilas Esther: When to build a Fence Around the Torah – when to be silent. Usually it’s the least knowledgeable person who wants to share even though greater scholars are present.
24:30 – PARAGRAPH 26. Parnassah emanates from sharing Daas. Makifim from the Yam HaChakhma generate both Daas and wealth.
27:15 – Business partnerships. Sharing Daas is what civilizes the world. This sharing includes business partnerships transacted with honesty, as in Bava Metzia 105: “The mazal – good fortune – of two people increases when they join together”.
31:00 – NOTE: In present times, rabonim tend to discourage business partnerships because unfortunately it’s often difficult to find a business partner who is honest.
32:00 – Different types of partnerships.
34:30 – PARAGRAPH 27. A kinyan locks a business partnership. Reference to Shulchan Aruch 176. It’s crucial not to change a business deal midstream. Failing to keep one’s word is the root of all evil.
36:50 – רָאִ֗יתָ אִ֖ישׁ חָכָ֣ם בְּעֵינָ֑יו תִּקְוָ֖ה לִכְסִ֣יל מִמֶּֽנּוּ – “If you see a man who is wise in his own eyes, there is more hope for a fool than for him” (Mishlei 26:12).
42:00 – NOTE about HaShem becoming more and more hidden as the Geulah approaches. It’s important to “Teach your tongue to say ‘I don’t know'”.
44:00 – Changing a deal midstream does not allow a person to prosper. A person might tend to go back on his word because he thinks he’s going to benefit from it, but changing a deal actual causes him harm. “A person who tricks someone will not retain what he caught in his net”. Whenever a person changes a deal, he actually loses.
46:00 – וְהָעֹשֶׁר וְהַכָּבוֹד מִלְּפָנֶיךָ וְאַתָּה מוֹשֵׁל בַּכֹּל – “And wealth and honor are from before You, and You rule over all…” (1Divrei HaYamim 29:12). All wealth is in the hands of HaShem, so it is a lack of emunah that prevents a person from keeping his word.
48:00 – Changing a business deal is foolish. That’s why in order to establish a partnership, a kinyan is made. Kinyan Sudar. Clothing is a form of makif.
52:00 – Q&R.
54:00 – Closing Brochos.
