Likutey Halakhos, Yoreh Deah 1, Hilkhos Avodas Elilim Akum 1, Introduction, Para. 4-7. This halakha is based on 2Likutey Moharan 8.
Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon. Mesiras Nefesh; Giving One’s Life Al Kiddush Hashem; Tefillin, Shoes and Shoelaces; Pinchas; Acharei Mos; Ata Gibor is תפילה בבחינת דין Tefilah BiVechinas Din – “Judgment Prayer”. Minyan – a gathering of ten Jewish men. Why the left shoe is tied before the right.

00 – PARAGRAPH 4. Giving one’s life Al Kiddush Hashem – for the sanctification of Hashem’s Name (Sanhedrin 74). The spiritual aspects of shoes.
10 – Giving one’s life Al Kiddush Hashem is an example of Tefilah BiVechinas Din.
35 – The curse given to the serpent: ה֚וּא יְשֽׁוּפְךָ֣ רֹ֔אשׁ וְאַתָּ֖ה תְּשׁוּפֶ֥נּוּ עָקֵֽב – “…[man] will crush your head, and you will bite his heel” (Bereishis 3:15). Through the sin of Adam and Chava, garments of אור – light – were changed to garments of עור – leather.
38 – The three daily tefilos counteract the three klipos of Taivos Niuf embodied in the three sins for which a Jew sacrifices his life. מַה־יָּפ֧וּ פְעָמַ֛יִךְ בַּנְּעָלִ֖ים – “How beautiful are your footsteps in shoes…” (Shir HaShirim 7:2).
05 – שַׁל־נְעָלֶ֨יךָ֙ מֵעַ֣ל רַגְלֶ֔יךָ – “…remove your shoes from your feet…” (Shemos 3:5).
22 – Why a Jew ties his shoes in a way that differs from non-Jewish custom.
12 – The spiritual connection between tefillin and shoes. (Shabbos 61). We tie the tefillin on the left arm. Even though we put the right shoe on first, then the left shoe, we tie the left shoe first, and afterwards the right.
56 – תפילה בבחינת דין – Tefilah BiVechinas Din. The light of the Yod of Yaakov counteracts the forces of evil brought to the world through Esav. The spiritual dimension of the angel of Esav wounding Yaakov in the thigh. Repairing this injury is accomplished through mesiras nefesh and Tefilah BeVechinas Din.
55 – The Gemara specifies not even changing one’s shoelaces when the Torah is under attack. Principles of giving one’s life al kiddush Hashem.
50 – The power of prayer with a minyan: the perfection of tefilah is achieved when ten Jews pray together.
13 – PARAGRAPH 5. Mesiras Nefesh, Kiddush Hashem. Giving one’s life rather than transgress the Torah.
20 – Q&R about why the Gemara specifies shoelaces rather than shoes.
39 – PARAGRAPH 6.
03 – בְּקָרְבָתָ֥ם לִפְנֵֽי־יְהוָֹ֖ה וַיָּמֻֽתוּ – “…when they drew near before Hashem and they died” (VaYikra 16:1, Acharei Mos).
52 – Through his mesiras nefesh Pinchas corrected the spiritual damage caused by Nadav and Avihu.
45 – NOTE from Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld ז”ל about the gematria of Pinchas. Hes Samach is begematria “chaim”. Pey Noon is 130 which is twice A-D-N-Y.
*43:55 – PARAGRAPH 7. The blessing “Ata Gibor” in tefilas Shemoneh Esrei is an example of Tefilah BiVechinas Din. Following this a minyan can say “Kadosh Kadosh Kadosh”.
07 – Thunder is an aspect of gevurah. כִּֽי־מָֽלְאָ֣ה הָאָ֗רֶץ דֵּעָה֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֔ה כַּמַּ֖יִם לַיָּ֥ם מְכַסִּֽים – “…for the land shall be filled with knowledge of Hashem as water covers the sea bed” (Yeshayahu 11:9).
23 – Techiyas HaMeisim.
57 – Through Tefilah BiVechinas Din in the blessing Ata Gibor we merit the “Song of the Future” played on an instrument of 72 strings, corresponding to the Yod of Yaakov discussed above.
