Sheluchin 3 – Chanukah Lights – Hashgacha – Eyes of HaShem – Free Will – Teshuvah Is Only Possible Through Emes – Spiritual Aspects of Sun, Moon, Stars – Public Domain vs. Private Domain – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Sheluchin 3 is based on Likutey Moharan 51 – “Mayim Mayim” and is also based on Likutey Moharan 4.
00 – PARAGRAPH 9. – The Chanukah lights expresses faith in hashgacha – that “the Eyes of HaShem observe us constantly. HaShem’s supervision is not dependent on the “laws of nature”.
00 – PARAGRAPH 10. The Chanukah lights are kindled at a height below 10 tefachim [approx. 32 inches].
00 – Free will. The “further away” we are from HaShem, the more difficult it is for a person to connect the diversity of After Creation with the unity of Before Creation.
20 – NOTE about Shema Yisrael – the statement of our desire to connect with HaShem Echad. HaShem knows exactly what’s going on in the world – it’s up to each individual to influence HaShem to bring blessing.
00 – A baal teshuvah has increased potential to connect After Creation with Before Creation because he came to HaShem from such a distance (Berakhos 34).
20 – Teshuvah requires אמת – honesty. Returning to HaShem is only possible through emes – truth.
30 – בְּֽכָל־מָ֖קוֹם עֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה צֹ֜פ֗וֹת רָעִ֥ים וְטוֹבִֽים – “The eyes of HaShem are everywhere, viewing the evil and the good” (Mishlei 15:3).
00 – NOTE – Teshuvah – How does a person begin his return to HaShem? One way is to hear the Torah’s accounts of emunah.
20 – PARAGRAPH 12. The Chanukah lights are kindled in the Reshus HaYachid – private domain – realm of kedusha within the home. However the Chanukah lights must radiate to the Reshus HaRabim – public domain – realm of impurity – outside the home.
40 – NOTE about the Dubner Maggid and the Vilna Gaon. Every tzaddik has a unique mission in the world.
45 – BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE about one of Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld zal’s friends who became a U.S. army chaplain.
20 – “A messenger is like the sender” is an aspect of connecting After Creation with Before Creation.
00 – Daylight represents hashgachas HaShem/Before Creation. Darkness is an aspect of After Creation, when it’s necessary to have emunah in order to remember the light of HaShem. אַךְ־חֹ֥שֶׁךְ יְשׁוּפֵ֑נִי וְ֜לַ֗יְלָה א֣וֹר בַּֽעֲדֵֽנִי – “…’Darkness will darken me, and the night will be as light about me'” (Tehillim 139:12). For HaShem, the night is as bright as day.
00 – Q&R about how to respond to hearing disrespect of a rabbi.
50 – PARAGRAPH 13.
20 – PARAGRAPH 14. The proper time to light Chanukah lights is from the times the stars appear in the sky “until footsteps are no longer in the marketplace”. “Nature” is an aspect of darkness. Man’s purpose is to restore the light of the moon to the light of the sun – After Creation to Before Creation.
30 – The stars represent the repair of the moon. Spiritual aspects of sun, moon and stars.
40 – Chanukah lights are kindled “when the stars appear in the sky”. Stars are an aspect of hashgacha. “Until footsteps are no longer in the marketplace” – the foot is related to sheker since it’s the lowest part of the body, closest to the domain of impurity.
30 – The Kavanas of the Arizal on the Chanukah lights emphasize אמת (Pri Etz Chaim).
50 – Closing blessings. Today is Yom Kippur Katan.
