Ein Yaakov – Lesson 093a – The Greatness of Rabbi Akiva – The Mystical Connection Between Pinchas and Eliyahu HaNavi – Elisha’s Request

Ein Yaakov – The Greatness of Rabbi Akiva – The Mystical Connection Between Pinchas and Eliyahu HaNaviElisha’s Request – Speaker: Rabbi Zvi Aryeh Rosenfeld zal.
00:00 – The greatness of Rabbi Akiva. The enormous contrast between the passing and burial of Moshe Rabbeinu and those of Rabbi Akiva.
04:07 – Account of Rabbi Akiva when he was a student of Rabban Gamliel and mistakenly carried a dead body away from the place it should have been buried.
07:21 – The mystical connection between Nadav, Avihu, Pinchas, and Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet).
*12:32 – Elisha HaNavi requests and receives “Pi Shneyim” – a double portion – of Eliyahus HaNavi’s powers. The Hebrew word נא – please – in Elisha’s request hints at the names Nadav and Avihu.
13:35 – Rabbah Bar Abuha asks Eliyahu HaNavi if he is a Kohen. Eliyahu HaNavi’s response includes a review of Mishnah.
20:15 – Tosefos questions how Eliyahu HaNavi, as the soul of a Kohen, could revive a dead child.
27:31 – Tosefos brings a third aspect of Eliyahu HaNavi’s response to Rabbah Bar Abuha. That the account actually speaks of Eliyahu HaNavi carrying the dead body of Rabbi Akiva, because the body of a tzaddik who passes away does not have the impurity of death. Proof brought from Kasubos, the death of Rabbeinu HaKadosh, Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi.
*29:10 – Why visiting the grave sites of certain Tzaddikim (such as Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai zal or Rebbe Nachman of Breslov) does not convey impurity.
30:35 – A deeper explanation: Eliyahu HaNavi was actually hinting about his arrival preceding the arrival of Moshiach ben Yosef. The child who he brought back to life was the prophet Yonah.
33:44 – Is the wife of Eliyahu HaNavi considered a widow?
37:20 – The reasoning of the Maharshal on the status of Eliyahu HaNavi’s wife.
37:55 – Who was Eliyahu HaNavi? All aspects of the different opinions are true. [Original recording ends abruptly before end of shiur.]
