Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon. This halakha is based on Likutey Moharan I, Torah 54.
00 – HALAKHA 2 – INTRODUCTION. The importance of protecting one’s memory. Pharaoh decreed death to the male children of Bnei Yisrael because he was attacking zicharon (memory) which is an aspect of zochor (male).
20 – Yad (hand) is an aspect of simcha (joy) which can subdue the power of imagination. Music is used to bring simcha. Because Yosef HaTzaddik was not ruled by his imagination, he was the antithesis of Pharaoh.
18 – PARAGRAPH 1. The 18 types of treyfus that relate to defects in species of animals that are permissible to eat.
08 – The differentiation between what’s kosher and what’s not kosher is done through an aspect of neginah (melody).
29 – PARAGRAPH 2. Birkas HaMazon (blessings after eating bread) and the ten halakhos about the kos shel bracha, which correspond to the ten types of negina.
16 – The prohibition against eating a living or damaged animal – ever min hachai.
49 – The five sections of the lungs are related to the five strings of Dovid HaMelech‘s harp and the five books of the written Torah.
01 – Protecting the memory depends on eating in holiness and joy.
*26:10 – The korbonos (sacrifices) brought in the Beis HaMikdash elevate a person by separating out the ruach habeyma (animal spirit) from holiness.
54 – Bava Kama 72: “I haven’t yet eaten meat.” Those entrusted with deciding matters of halakha are especially required to protect their clarity of discernment.
