Chezkas Karkaos 3 – Parshas Bo – Acquiring Eretz Yisrael – Thunder – Shemiras HaBris – Esav – Yismael – Wild Animals of the Swamp – Simcha shel Mitzvah – Rosh Hashanah – Joy of the Sukkah – Speaker: Rabbi Nasan Maimon.
Hilkhos Chezkas Karkaos 3 is based on Likutey Moharan 5.
00 – PARAGRAPH 2b.
00 – גְּעַ֨ר חַיַּ֪ת קָנֶ֡ה – “Rebuke the wild animals of the swamp…” (Tehillim 68:31). – “Wild animal of the swamp” refers to Esav and Yismael – they are the negative forces that hover over Eretz Yisrael during Am Yisrael’s exile. They are strengthened if Am Yisrael is weak in Shemiras HaBris.
00 – All real estate owned by a Jew anywhere in the world is affected by the klipos of Esav and Yismael. To protect from the damage caused by these negative forces, a Jew needs to purify and guard his thoughts.
00 – PARAGRAPH 3. Parshas Bo. וְהָיָ֣ה כִֽי־יְבִֽיאֲךָ֣ יְהֹוָ֡ה אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ הַ֠כְּנַֽעֲנִ֠י – “And it shall that HaShem will bring you into the land of the Canaanites…” מַצּוֹת֙ יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת שִׁבְעַ֣ת הַיָּמִ֑ים וְלֹא־יֵֽרָאֶ֨ה לְךָ֜ חָמֵ֗ץ וְלֹא־יֵֽרָאֶ֥ה לְךָ֛ שְׂאֹ֖ר בְּכָל־גְּבֻלֶֽךָ – “Matzos shall be eaten during the seven days, and no chometz shall be seen of yours [in your possession], and no chometz shall be seen of yours throughout all of your borders” (Shemos 13:5-7, Bo). Eretz Yisrael is acquired through the mitzvah of matzah and being careful not to eat chometz on Pesach. This applies during the entire year through not permitting impure thoughts to dwell in one’s mind. Sometimes such thoughts may suddenly occur, but if a person immediately focuses on something else, the impure thought will dissipate and cause no harm.
30 – PARAGRAPH 4. When a person has mastery over their thoughts, his tefilah becomes like thunder, which enables him to experience the true joy of doing a mitzvah. Thunder straightens out the heart and brings simcha, as in א֖וֹר זָרֻ֣עַ לַצַּדִּ֑יק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵ֥ב שִׂמְחָֽה – “Light is sown for the righteous, and for the upright of heart, joy” (Tehillim 97:11).
50 – NOTE about current events. The whole world is focused on taking Eretz Yisrael away from Am Yisrael.
00 – *Q&R – by gaining mastery over our thoughts we can merit Eretz Yisrael.
00 – Ownership of land is demonstrated through benefiting from the produce of that land. Produce is a result of simcha – the life-energy generated into all that a person owns.
30 – PARAGRAPH 5. Rain in Eretz Yisrael benefits the entire world.
00 – Reference to Likutey Moharan 48. All the tefilos of the world ascend through Eretz Yisrael. Am Yisrael cannot truly acquire Eretz Yisrael until we purify our thoughts.
00 – PARAGRAPH 6. Tefilah bekoach and tokias hashofar on Rosh Hashanah. The holiness of Eretz Yisrael is drawn from the tefilos and tokias hashofar of Rosh Hashanah.
00 – PARAGRAPH 7. Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of our teshuvah through activating the thunder of tefilos and tokias. On Yom Kippur our sins are eliminated as a result of the teshuvah done from Rosh Hashanah through the Ten Days of Teshuvah.
30 – “Light is sown for the righteous…” (Tehillim 97:11).
20 – Perfection of tefilah is achieved on Yom Kippur through the 5 Kolos/5 Gevuros of HaShem corresponding to the 5 tefilos on Yom Kippur since Neilah is added. (Tehillim 29).
00 – Q&R – what are machshavos zaros – foreign thoughts?
00 – PARAGRAPH 8. Thunder smooths out the crookedness in the heart and leads to joy.
30 – PARAGRAPH 9. Simcha shel mitzvah. A person experiences their Olam HaBah through his performance of a mitzvah in joy. Sukkah is an aspect of Olam HaBah, as in וְסֻכָּ֛ה תִּהְיֶ֥ה לְצֵל־יוֹמָ֖ם מֵחֹ֑רֶב – “And a sukkah shall be for shade by day from the heat…” (Yeshayah 4:6).
30 – Sukkah is an aspect of Binah – the “mother who hovers over her children”.
00 – ***Sukkos is a time of joy.
30 – PARAGRAPH 10. The culmination of Am Yisrael’s joy is on Shemini Atzeres. Simchas Beis HaShoeyva.
20 – HaShem’s joy and Am Yisrael’s joy unite on Simchas Torah. ***שלמות השמחה – The perfection of joy is when we don’t expect some future reward, but the joy of the moment is enough.
50 – Closing blessings.
